After hearing about the swap shop of the When Red Go Green project of Ricefield Arts, I became more interested in it. This was a new concept to me. When I joined the Climate Change event “Last Fashion but not Fast Fashion”, it became clearer to me. Swap shops are a market where everything is for exchange. You can give your old clothing away and take something the others do not need anymore back. And the good thing is: Everything is for free. I love this idea!
Every time when I attended the swap shop, I could always find surprises. I could not imagine how people could throw all these things especially when I heard about its impact on our earth. Many materials cannot be recycled or composted. When people throw those, they will either go to the landfill or will be burnt. When Red Go Green Swap Shop weighs the clothes you choose in order to calculate how much your carbon footprint will be reduced. It makes you feel as if you contributed. And you did! Of course, at the same time, you can have the clothes for free!
I love shopping and I do have lots of clothes at home. But surprisingly I found I had not worn many of my clothes recently… Some of them are still new. Sometimes I asked myself why I have bought so many things but did not use them. It was such a waste! And how could I throw those? Swap shops are such a great place where you can deal with unused treasures. I believe some people may love your clothes more than you do.
When I found another one had chosen my donation and will wear it during the summer time, I felt I contributed to both the environment and the community. My clothing will experience a new life! I also love my red trousers that I found between lots of dark-coloured clothing. I was always wearing it on my spring trip. It is made of 100% cotton and feels absolutely comfortable.
Thanks to all the staff and volunteers of the When Red Go Green project. Swapping clothes helps the community, improves the environment and your own well-being. 🙂
